In order to maximize the small bedroom space my daughter will have in our new home, we decided a loft bed was the way to go. I had been planning to buy her a new girl’s bedroom set (since my ex-wife is taking the set she has now to her house). While shopping around for children’s furniture, I found a few loft beds that would work great. There was a problem though…The loft beds I liked were really, really expensive – surprisingly so. I’m always amazed at how expensive furniture can be… Some of the ‘cheap’ loft beds I found were still $800 or more and honestly they didn’t seem very substantial at all for that price. So, now I have the do it yourself bug that often comes calling when I think of dishing out big money.
Here are a few key requirements for the loft bed I plan to buld for my daughter’s bedroom:
- Must be safe
- Must not look like a piece of junk slapped together with 2×4’s
- Material expense should not exceed $200
- Must have a desk in the space below the bed (per my daughter)
I will track my progress and post instructions, a material list, and more detailed plans as the project progresses. Please check back for updates on this project. Below is an image I generated for the loft bed I plan to build…
